The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end as L perched himself beside him, leaving him feeling awkward as he tried ever so discreetly to shift away. It was downright bizarre, having L constantly chase after him for friendship; he'd already had enough of that from Misa, though somehow it wasn't as unsettling as this. Obviously Light wasn't buying it, and yet the other endeavored to continue what was utterly a lost cause anyway. Perhaps the detective thought that if he badgered him enough he'd be able to slowly chip away at his resolve, that he could be so easily underestimated a thought that infused him with anger.
"You say all of that, but why would I believe that you'd willingly give up even a crumb of that cake? And why do you want me to eat the cake so badly that you're even trying to reason with me? I really wish you'd just give up already with this bullshit about wanting to be my friend," Light replied, clearly disgruntled, yet at some point during the exchange had put his book down, giving L his undivided attention.
