[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: L Lawliet aka: Ryuuzaki, Hideki Ryuuga, Eraldo Coil, Deneuve, L
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Fandom: Death Note (Anime)
Timeline: Episode 25, post-death.
History: There is little information about L's past, and although it does not have a specific section for 'history', I believe L's wikia page covers the majority of what we know: http://deathnote.wikia.com/wiki/L_Lawliet

Character Personality: If I’m to put it bluntly, L is a compact ball of social awkwardness. He does what he pleases whenever he pleases, without any regard to other people’s feelings or intents. He is polite in how he speaks due to the nature of the Japanese language and culture, but his actions tell another story entirely. L has no qualms saying one thing and doing another, or holding other people to expectations he himself disregards (when it comes to cellphones, for example). One of L's greatest strengths is his humor and his ability to act like a fool. He has no sense of pride, and is confident and secure in himself and his abilities. He is a liar, and a hypocrite. Ohba-sensei has even commented that he feels L is “slightly evil”, perhaps due to the lengths he’ll go to uphold justice.

Justice is L’s one and only driving point. Of course self-preservation and common sense factor in as well, but when it boils down to it, justice is L’s driving force and passion, despite how dispassionate his demeanor may seem. L does not hesitate to act, nor does he have issue biding his time and being patient when it is necessary. He does not let anything get in the way of his search for truth and justice. L does not even consider ethics (or the law, for that matter) when it comes to the lengths he'll go to see justice done.

L is fond of sweets to the point of obsession (he also likes coffee and tea with large amounts of creamer and sugar, respectively) and is often seen eating. Due to his sugary eating habits, he sits in a crouching position to keep him and his intelligent brain alert.

Intelligence is what L holds in high regard, and he respects those who are able to make swift deductions. He enjoys being challenged, and very much enjoys being the one who comes out on top. As L himself said, he is childish and hates to lose.

He has trouble empathizing with people, and has to deliberately ponder for a moment in order to take another person’s thoughts or feelings into account. His particular brand of intelligence comes from a space of objectivity, with as little emotion involved as possible. This is how L handles the situations he finds himself in, although not always as he can be prone to depression and therefore distraction (however, this is uncommon, and L, being as open-minded as he is, isn't extremely hard to cheer up). When he is able to find that space of objectivity and drive, his deductions are very often spot-on.

L is very secretive and distrusts when in doubt. If one earns his trust - and earn it one has to - one becomes a highly trusted individual and has his respect. L also has an open mind to any number of possibilities; this is in part due to his experience with the otherworldly Kira case. L does not disregard something merely because it is improbable, especially if it makes sense to him. He regards his own deductions as relative truth - "relative" because he does understand that he isn't perfect - and especially if he's emotionally involved, may have a hard time letting go of something he previously thought to be true.

Another invaluable skill that L posses is his exceptionally perceptive instincts, and his acceptance of the information they provide him is one of his strengths. It allows him to "know" things on a certain level his logical mind may not understand, but accepts nonetheless. An example of this would be his gut instinct that Light is Kira (and Misa the second Kira), even when logic might outright suggest otherwise. This also explains why he is upset at having these instincts proven wrong and refuses to let them go completely. L trusts himself, trusts his mind, and trusts his instincts because ninety-nine percent of the time, they turn out to be right. At the same time, he keeps his mind open, and is able to deal with other's thoughts and entertain them, but when it comes down to it L's intellectual loyalty is to himself and his own deductions.

Character Abilities: L is human, and has no superhuman abilities, but he is a super mega foxy awesome hot detective of love and justice kind of a smart guy. His analytical skills, ability to make connections, discern truth, his complete understanding of thorough examination, incredible perception, and impeccable sense of timing when it comes to hunting down criminals are all extremely remarkable and are certainly above that of the average human's. At the young age of 24 (though I'm taking him at age 25), L has already established himself as his world's top three detectives with a little help from his friend Watari. He is a skilled tennis player, and is trained in capoeira, a Brazilian art form which includes elements of martial art, dance, and music (he uses a similar technique in self-defense, taking from the martial part of the art to put to use). He also knows how to drive a helicopter and has mastered the skill of stacking used creamer containers - as well as sugar cubes - and tying a cherry stem with just his tongue.

Character Weaknesses: L is unable to empathize with other people and has trouble making friends. Connecting with people is difficult, and more often than not, he doesn't care to. As much as L wants to see justice done, he usually doesn't care so much about the individual people involved. He distances himself from people in order to protect himself, and in turn when he is taken from the comfortable environment of Watari's care, it becomes difficult for him to find that same comfort again. And as much as he distances himself from people, he realizes he cannot do everything on his own (because he often doesn't do much at all).

Speaking of Watari, L is very much used to having Watari wait on him hand and foot. He is used to not having to clean up or cook for himself. This sort of service most likely started at around the same time the two of them met and Watari first realized L's genius (Mello tells us that L was eight at the time in Another Note), so it's not at all hard to imagine how much L is used to being taken care of, and how at a loss he'll be when he's not.

L himself has admitted to being immature and a sore loser. This might not qualify as strong of a weakness, but is a point to be made nonetheless.

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Meister: As the world's greatest detective, L has completely shrouded his identity in mystery. For that reason, he does not act as himself (minus the special Kira case). Instead, he delegates the work. Often times, he's sitting behind a computer screen giving Watari (or very easily someone else, but Watari is utilized rather often) orders to do this or act this way in his stead. L is very much the man with the plan and the men to get it done. He hardly ever does anything himself (simple housework and taking care of himself included), instead he relies on others to follow his orders. For that reason, L is suited to be a Meister, the one wielding the weapon who knows not only how to use it effectively but also to what ends. (Also because Light Yagami is a Weapon.)

Meister Ability: Soul Precognition, Soul Apathy, Soul ZZZ.

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Soul Description: Genius, driven, intelligent, curious, awkward, childish.

Soul Appearance: L's soul is blue, due to both the red oni blue oni trope going on and L's signature color being blue thanks to many of the series' characters being color coded for our convenience. L's soul has round, bug eyes with dark rings under them, and his soul trail of what would be hair is off to the side and has a similar, less prominent shape than his physical hair.

[ SAMPLES ]

First Person: [The message appears as text as ambiguously tempered with audio plays.]

Greetings to everyone in Death City. I am L.

It has been brought to my attention that Light Yagami is among us here. As someone from his world, I would like any information anyone has on him. He is a suspect in a very important and very dangerous murder case in the world we are both from, and I have no intention of allowing a remake of this particular case here in Death City. For that reason, I ask that any information you give me to be locked to me in order to keep him and anyone who will give him information from it. Thank you for your cooperation.

Light, the best thing for you is to cooperate fully. Though I do not necessarily expect this to happen, I believe you're aware of the potential consequences surrounding this situation if you do not. I await hearing from you.

Third Person: The transition between consciousness and unconsciousness - or perhaps, existence and non-existence - is not smooth. In fact, it is a jolt. Whenever one experiences a strange, unexpected shift in their everything, there is shock that follows. Babies respond to this by crying. L does not cry - not yet - although there is a deep, unrecognized yearning to. Instead, he merely stares. It is a clear day: pleasant, cool but not cold, sunny but not warm. L is dry, and will begin to formulate multiple theories about how he got here, but at this very moment he cannot get over one thing.

Death.

And yet, that is exactly what's happened, hasn't it? He has "gotten over" death. Or, at least, he had been so sure -- no, he had died. Kira does not allow his victims to live. Perhaps this is some sort of afterlife? But he is so like he was in life. At the very least he feels so like he did in life. Later he will muse about the significance that the city is named Death City and not something more usual for the United States. It is the place where he is no longer death, no longer dead. A second birth, perhaps, in Death City. Irony is bitter justice.

L shifts, sits up, crouches, and tears have found a mind of their own and are escaping his eyes. He does not cry out, for he has always been silent in his pain. He holds himself against his knees, his feet - devoid of socks - keeping him balanced. With death came his proof, but with death his proof has flown. Not that it matters. L is not crying over lost proof. L does not know what he is crying over.

The tears are gone as soon as they've come. The stains remain, and L does not feel any lighter. Light Yagami is Kira. Light Yagami defeated L.

In a strange, foreign environment L is alive and lost once again. He has little knowledge of the circumstances in which he has been allowed a sort of second life, and he intends to remedy this situation as soon as possible.

[ NOTES ]
Just to be clear, the DEMISE network post is based on a hypothetical situation and is no way meant to be taken an "intro post" for L.

Though L is taken from the anime, his characterization will also incorporate Death Note: Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases and his personality and memory will be congruent with the extra (but not the altered) scenes of the Rewrite/Relight, as well as taking into consideration what Ohba-sensei tells us about him.
